Tube Top Dresses are almost a summer essential. They can be worn alone as a casual dress or used as a bathing suit cover up.
You can even add straps very easily to make the dress a little more "dressy."
Let's Get Started!
Pre-made Tube Top fabric
1. When you go to buy the fabric make sure you have the measurement of the person you're making the dress for. You'll want to measure around the fullest part of the chest and add about an inch. That way you'll the seam allowance and it will be snug enough to fit properly.
I usually have the person I'm making the dress for come to the sewing shop with me and just wrap the fabric around the person and add the seam allowance. I call this ghetto-measuring. But, if you don't want to make a public spectacle of yourself or you can't take the person with you, then it's best to measure. ;)
2. Hem the bottom of the dress. I recommend a blind hem stitch. It gives it a professional look and it's relatively easy to do. Click here for instructions and video.
3. Use a zig zag stitch up each side of the back of the dress to keep the edges from unraveling. This also gives it a finished touch.
4. Sew up the back of the dress.
It's that simple! Now, you have a great summer dress!
